(Unknown date) An unknown plant with an unusual shape. It is very upright and “leggy” with sparse limbs. The location is at the northwest corner of the Cabin.

(Before 1980) This plant is located in the Pine Woods area bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, the Toothache Tree on the north and an extensive growth of ‘Maxecat’ rhodos on the south. It is located at the far edge of this area, on the trail, and has grown thickly together into a large clump. Adjacent on the north side is R. ‘Mrs. G. W. Leak.
Rhododendron 'Maximum Roseum'
(2001) This plant is a hybrid of the maximum species. It is located in the far north end of Area 2C on the Glen Map of 1990. It is bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, and the East Entrance on the north. It is located on the trail and is the first rhodo that you see from the East Entrance.

(Before 1980) This plant is old and cutback. It is located on the trail, not far from the East Entrance. It is just southeast of the Louisiana (C&T Nursery) hybrid, ‘White River’.

(Before 2000) This plant is located in the “Azalea Hill” open area created by the fallen giant white oak. Most plants in this area are azaleas with a few small trees and herbaceous plants. It is near the beech tree, just off the trail, at the far north end of the open area.

Rhododendron 'Whittendon'
(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection, with light pink flowers. Our plant is growing more laterally than upright due to lack of good light. It is located just off the trail, near its bend at the Hickory Bridge.
Rhododendron 'Whitewater(?)'
(Unknown date) Research is unable to find a rhodo of this name – there is a Whitewater group of azaleas. This plant may have been mislabelled. Located in the center of the area between the Rosebay and Long Branch West trails. (2011)

(1994) This hybrid from C&T Nursery is located off the trail, due north of the Louisiana (C&T Nursery) hybrid, ‘Lowell Loomis’. These hybrids are grouped together, have been bred for heat tolerance, and have shown great vigor (2017) since their planting.

(2007) This hybrid has won awards for “plant of the year”. It is fragrant with pink flowers. It is located on the trail, at the intersection with the Pine Woods Trail. The accession number is 07-V-024.

It is located off the trail, towards the south side of this area, and southeast of R. eastmanii. The accession number is 10-V-014.

It is located in the north end of this area, east of the azalea, ‘Gregory Bald Hybrid’. The accession number is 09-V-001.

(2010) Orange-red flowers, similar to ‘Vulcan’. Located just off the trail in the area just north of the Bog, near Dexter’s Apricot.

(2011) A Lancaster hybrid with fiery red flowers. It is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is due west of R. ‘Yaku Prince’.
Rhododendron 'Vulcan's Flame' #1
(2005) This hybrid was created by Lancaster, taking the same parents as the well known hybrid, ‘Vulcan’, but crossing them in reverse order. The result is similar to ‘Vulcan’, but is more compact and more heat resistant. The flower is the same on both plants, a fiery orange-red color. The plant is located off the trail, just west of R. Roseum, in the area with some Magnolia trees.

(Before 1980) An older hybrid by the Englishman, Anthony Waterer. It has been a good grower in the Glen, a compact plant with brick-red flowers. It is located in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area, just off the trail near the intersection with the Kellam Spur Trail.

(Before 1980) This hybrid is located on the trail just north of a large oak tree, in the area known as the Hickory Gap. It is at the southern edge of a large collection of native herbaceous plants.

It is located on the trail, just south of the picnic table and beside R. eastmanii. It came from the Laurel Springs Nursery.

Rhododendron 'Van Nes Sensation' #12
(Before 1980) This plant is located in Area 2K on the Glen Map of 1990. It is bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the east, the Stone Bridge Trail on the northwest, and the Long Branch East Trail on the southwest. It is located just off the trail, behind a spreading clump of R.’Maxecat’. It is a healthy layered piece of an old Van Nes plant that died in 2017.
