(2009) This plant is located in the small area bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, the Scout Bridge Trail on the south and an extensive growth of ‘Maxecat’ rhodos on the north. It is located off the trail, south of R. ‘Grierosplendour’ and it was hybridized by Russ and Velma Haag. The accession number is 09-V-016.

(2000) A large hybrid named in honor of the founder of the Gardens, Dr. Herbert Hechenbleikner. It has peachy, yellowish flowers and is located in the area just north of the Bog. It is close to the path and between the rhodos ‘Nestucca’ and ‘Solidarity’, not far from the wide bridge.

(2000) This hybrid was named for the garden’s founder, Dr. Herbert Hechenbleikner. It is located on the trail, in a large clump of Goldenseal, in the area just north of the Hickory Gap. It is near a hemlock tree, just north of three R. minus plants.

Rhododendron 'Heman Howard'
(Unknown date) This Dexter hybrid was named for a horticulturist on the Dexter plantation at Sandwich, MA. It is located just off the trail, below all the Louisiana plantings and close to a Tulip tree. It is one of the few surviving rhododendrons in the lowest part of this area, where it has proved difficult to grow rhodos.
Rhododendron 'Helen Everitt'
(Unknown date) This plant is located on the trail, near its intersection with the Pine Woods Trail. It is the second rhodo on the trail, adjacent to R. ‘Madame Masson’. The hybrid is ‘Fawn’ x ‘Repose’.
Rhododendron 'Hallelujah'
(1992) A Greer hybrid from the Kellam collection with purplish-red flowers and unusual foliage, with leaves curving downward, rounded at the base. This plant is located just off the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Wyanokie’.

(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with red flowers. This plant is located in the center of the Kellam Area, northeast of the large Barnstable rhodo.

(Before 1980) We have quite a few of these hybrids in the Glen. The flowers are purplish-red and flower buds have a distinct shape that identifies the plant. It is a spreading plant, located in the area at the north end of the Kellam Trail, in a section (now obscured) that was rock-lined to enclose a planting of azaleas. It is on the west edge of a spreading Leucothoe plant.

It is located at the north end of this area, not far from the toothache tree, and north of the alabamense azalea. The accession number is 11-V-026.

(2001) This plant is located in a narrow area bounded by the Long Branch and the Long Branch East Trail, starting with the Stone Bridge and going to the Hech Bridge near the entrance to the Coastal Plain. It is located on the creek bank, just north of a large sweet gum tree.

(2001) An azalea from the Gregory Bald area on the North Carolina/Tennessee border, where the plants are known to freely hybridize and may have flowers of various shades of red, orange and yellow. (1993) Hybridized by Hagg in the Great Smoky Mts., this plant is from the Kellam collection. It has soft pink flowers and a bright reddish-purple blotch in the throat.This plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is not far from the Short Branch, about midway between the Kellam Trail and the fence.

(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with pink flowers. A large plant, broader than tall, located in the row of Dexter hybrids, just east of ‘Dexter’s Spice’.
Rhododendron 'Graf Zeppelin'
(1998) A hybrid by C.B. van Nes in 1934. It is located in the area containing the Hemlock grove, and this plant is just on the north side of the grove, close to a large white oak tree.

(Before 1980) This old hybrid is a large, spreading plant with white flowers with some pink at the edges. Over the years it has spread downhill by layering, to its current location on the path, beside the large hemlock tree. It is located on the sidehill known as the Hickory Gap.

Rhododendron 'Glenolden'
(1994) A Dexter clone, selected at Swarthmore by Wister. Our plant is very large and located some 20 feet off the trail in the area just south of the Kellam Area. It is not far from the large Hemlock tree on the Bog Trail. The name likely comes from the city, Glenolden, PA.

(2007) This Dexter hybrid is located off the trail, east of ‘County of York’ and close to a large Winterberry Holly. It has a very nice dense shape, with pink flowers.
