(2010) This hybrid was raised by Dan Little and is located on the trail, just east of a large white oak. It is in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail.

(Before 1980) A spreading azalea (one or more plants) that is low and not thriving. It is at the edge of a spreading Leucothoe patch, in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Choptank Yellow' #1
(Before 1980) This plant is a yellow-flowered selection from a swarm of natural hybrids on the Choptank River located on the Maryland/Delaware River. The two species that have hybridized are periclymenoides and atlanticum. Our plant is located just north of R. calendulaceum, in the area containing the Hemlock grove, in a section (now obscured) that was rock-lined to enclose a planting of azaleas.
Rhododendron 'Charlestown'
(2000) According to an an article in the Journal of the ARS, the name Charlestown refers to an identical Dexter hybrid now registered as ‘Sandwich Appleblossom’, formerly known by the unregistered name, ‘Appleblossom’. Our plant is located off the trail, in the area just north of Hickory Gap, and just west of R. ‘Madame Masson’ (planted in 2012).
Rhododendron 'Charles Loomis'
(1994) This hybrid from C&T Nursery is located off the trail, northwest of the Louisiana (C&T Nursery) hybrid, ‘metternichii x hyperythrum’. These hybrids are grouped together, have been bred for heat tolerance, and have shown great vigor (2017) since their planting.
Rhododendron 'Charlene'
(1992) This hybrid came from the Kellam collection and may be mislabelled. Research is unable to find any information about ‘Charlene’. It is located on the trail, near the Hemlock grove, and just north of R. ‘Madame Masson’.
Rhododendron 'Chapmanii Wonder'
(Before 1980) This hybrid is an old plant located on the trail in the narrow area between the wide bridge and the Stone Bridge. It is near the Stone Bridge, next to a large Stewartia tree. It is a cross between the heat tolerant Florida species, chapmanii, and the cold tolerant Asia species, dauricum.
Rhododendron 'Cecil#07'
(1991) A hybrid from the Kellam Collection. It is located on the trail in the Kellam area, just west of ‘True Treasure’ and not far from the intersection with the Short Branch Trail.
Rhododendron 'Bonfire'
(Unknown date) This plant is located in a small area off the Pine Woods Trail, just south of the Azalea Circle. It is dominated by large R. ‘Maxecat’ plants. The plant is on the Pine Woods Trail, at the north corner of the area.
Rhododendron 'Blue Ensign'
(Before 1980) This hybrid has purple flowers with a white throat and prominent dark purple blotch. It is located on the trail, just north of the Hemlock grove and a bench.
Rhododendron 'Big Leaf Yelton'
(2007) A plant propagated from an old unnamed Yelton hybrid that had large leaves. Located in the row of Dexter hybrids near the Kellam area, just east of ‘Tom Everett’.
Rhododendron 'Bibermini x Belle Heller'
(1994) This hybrid from C&T Nursery is located off the trail, due north of the Louisiana (C&T Nursery) hybrid, ‘Mrs Otis Statham’. These hybrids are grouped together, have been bred for heat tolerance, and have shown great vigor (2017) since their planting.
Rhododendron 'Betty Hume' #2
(2010) Near the center of the Rosebay Trail, just south of a hickory tree, about 12 feet off the trail. The accession number is 10-V-071) A Dexter hybrid, crossing R. fortunei with an unknown plant.
Rhododendron 'Betty Hume' #1
(1994) A Dexter hybrid with fragrant pink, frilly flowers. A large plant located not far from the trail, about midway between the Bog Trail and the Kellam Connecting Trail.
Rhododendron 'Ben Mosley'
(2000) This plant is located off the trail, near the south end and the alternate-leaved dogwood. It is just east of a large Hamamelis shrub. The accession number is 02-V-68.
Rhododendron 'Bellringer'
(1991) A Consolini hybrid from the Kellam collection with light greenish-yellow flowers that are fragrant. It is a little “shy to bloom”. Located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Barnstable'
(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with pale pink flowers and a rounded growth habit. It is a very large plant located in the Kellam Area, in the general area of the Kellam sign, directly east of R.’Tom Everett’.

(2007) This Dexter hybrid has red flowers and was raised by Dan Little. It is located off the trail, northeast of R. ‘Lemon Ice’, and not far from the Wildflower Meadow Trail.

(2001) This hybrid is a large plant located just off the trail in the narrow area between the wide bridge and the Stone Bridge. It is near the intersection of the Hickory Gap Trail and the Long Branch East Trail and it is beside R. maximum x Nestucca. Its number is 01-V-125.
Rhododendron 'Aromi Sunny-side-up'
(2002) This plant is located in the Pine Woods area bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, the Toothache Tree on the north and an extensive growth of ‘Maxecat’ rhodos on the south. It is located just east of the azalea, ‘My Mary’ and the accession number 02-V-028. The hybridizer is Aromi.

(Unknown date) Located just off the trail, just north of the large ‘Barnstable’ rhodo. A vigorous, fast grower, broad spreading, one of the favorites of the Garden’s founder, Dr. Hech.

(Unknown date) An older plant, originally very large, but cutback. Located on the sidehill, midway between the Short Branch Trail and the Kellam Spur Trail.

(Before 1980) This old plant was severely cut back in 2016. It is located on the trail, south of the intersection with the WIldflower Meadow Trail and behind a large Callicarpa shrub.
Rhododendron 'Anna Rose Whitney' #3
(Before 1980) This plant is located in the Pine Woods area off the trail and about midway between the picnic table and the fence. It is on the north side of a group of unlabelled rhododendrons, all quite large and very old in the Pine Woods.
Rhododendron 'Maxecat'
(Before 1980) This hybrid may be the largest rhodo in the Gardens. It is likely more than thirty-five years old and continues to be vigorous. Some of the tall growth has been cut back over the years, so that there is a substantial amount of lateral growth, with the plant filling a large space between the Long Branch and the trail with layers of growth.
Rhododendron 'Anna Rose Whitney' #1
(Before 1980) This hybrid was a favorite of the garden’s founder, Dr. Hech. It is a very vigorous grower that rapidly grows into a very large plant, with large pink flowers. It is located on the hillside known as the Hickory Gap, at the south edge. It has been cut back to a single plant, just off the trail near the intersection of the Giant Oak and Stone Bridge trails.
Rhododendron 'Anah Kruschke'
(Unknown date) This hybrid is located just west of the Scout Bridge, near the ditch. It is a large spreading plant. This was planted many years ago and is the only remaining ‘Anah Kruschke’ rhodo in the Glen.

(2008) A Dexter hybrid, located on the path near its intersection with the Cabin Trail.
Rhododendron 'Accomplishment'
(1999) A Dexter hybrid with bicolor (red and white) flowers. Located close to the creek bank in the area just north of the Bog. It is near the wide bridge.

(Unknown date) A Dexter hybrid located at the intersection of the Short Branch Spur and Kellam Spur trails. (1993) It was not thriving in 2016, probably due to encroachment from another rhodo.

(1994) A Dexter hybrid, red flowered with well formed habit (4 feet in 10 years). Located in the row of Dexter plants between ‘Dexter’s Peppermint’ and ‘Great Eastern’, near the Kellam area.

(Before 1980) This plant is located in the small area bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, the Scout Bridge Trail on the south and an extensive growth of ‘Maxecat’ rhodos on the north. It is not far off the trail, just north of R. prunifolium. It has a nice flower, but a “leggy” unactractive growth habit.

Rhododendron 'A. Bedford' #1
(Before 1980) This old hybrid has been cut back from its generally very tall growth habit. It is located just on the southside of R. prunifolium, in the area known as the Hickory Gap. It is on the western edge of a large bed of native herbaceous plants.

(1997) A plant of unknown origin, acquired at Sandwich, MA, flowers are bicolor. Located near a white oak, just off the trail, near its south end.

It is located far off the trail, adjacent to ( on the east side) R.’Governor’s Mansion’ in the south side of this area. The accession number is 09-V-008.

(2013) This unknown plant is located in the area just south of the Kellam Area. It is not far off the trail, just east of a R.prunifolium plant.

(2001) This hybrid is a large plant located just off the trail in the narrow area between the wide bridge and the Stone Bridge. It is near the intersection of the Hickory Gap Trail and the Long Branch East Trail. It is just east of R. maximum x Nestucca. It is an award winning plant recognized by the Am. Rhodo Society. Its number is 01-V-058.
Rhododehdron 'Ginny Beale'
(1992) A Gable hybrid (metternichii x adenopodum) from the Kellam collection. It has rose colored flowers and is located on the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail.
Rhodo. 'Shaker Sunrise' x 'Mary Belle'
(1999) This hybrid is located in the area containing the Hemlock grove. It is off the trail, just south of a large white oak and close to the rock-lined path (now obscured).
Rhodendron speciosum red
(2009) This plant is located in the Pine Woods area bounded by the Pine Woods Trail on the west, the fence on the east, the Toothache Tree on the north and an extensive growth of ‘Maxecat’ rhodos on the south. It is located off the trail, close to the picnic table and just east of the azalea, ‘Late Date’. The accession number is 09-V-008.
Rhodendron metternichii
(1996) A very large, spreading plant directly at the gate of the North Entrance. It has long, narrow leaves and is low growing, occupying a large area at the entrance.
Rhodendron maximum
(Unknown date) One of about 14 of the maximum species in the area southwest of the Cabin. This plant is either two plants or one spreader, located just off the path near its beginning at the Cabin Trail.
Rhodendron colemanii
(2012) A new species of azalea, first described in 2008 as a split of the alabamense species. (It originally was thought to be a natural hybrid of alabamense). Flowers can by white, pink, or yellow and it blooms a month later than albamense. This plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Wyanokie’.
Rhodendron 'Yelton Dec - 69'
(1969) A very old, unnamed Yelton hybrid planted in December 1969, just three years after the first plantings in the Glen. It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
