(1992) This hybrid is from the Kellam collection, with no research found about its origin. This plant is located in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is on the trail, just south of R. ‘HP 28-86’.

(1991) A Dexter hybrid, donated by Marshall Stilwell. It is a large plant with pink flowers and rounded growth habit. It is located on the trail in the Kellam Area, not far from the Kellam sign.

(2010) A Dexter hybrid with flowers predominantly pink, aging to white. Raised by Dan Little. It is located in the area just north of the Kellam Area, and is off the trail, just southeast of R. ‘Piedmont Kinloss’.

(1993) This hybrid is from the Kellam collection. It is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Vulcan’s Flame’.
Rhododendron 'SW 12499-7'
(1992) A Swarthmore (SW) College hybrid from the Kellam collection (originally from the Dexter estate). It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Shazam'
(Before 1990) Research finds very little about this hybrid. It is in the Kellam area, on the trail, north of R. ‘Tom Everett’.
Rhododendron 'Scintillation' #2
(2010) A Dexter hybrid raised by Dan Little. This plant has pink flowers, is a classic rhodo, and one of the few rhodos put into a separate class by the ARS due to its outstanding qualities. This plant is located on the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is situated on the bank of the Short Branch.
Rhododendron 'Roseum Elegans' #10
(Before 1980) A hybrid of R. catawbiense with rosy-lavender flowers and a very vigorous growth habit. It is located off the trail, in the closest area to the Main Entrance on the west side of the Kellam Trail. It is plant #1 in a group of three plants, close to the fence and a large sweet gum tree. It is west of R. prunifolium and R. hyperythrum.

(Before 1980) A hybrid of R. catawbiense with rosy-lavender flowers and a very vigorous growth habit. It is located off the trail, in the closest area to the Main Entrance on the west side of the Kellam Trail. It is plant #2 in a group of three plants, close to the fence and a large sweet gum tree. It is west of R. prunifolium and R. hyperythrum.

(2004) Research is unable to find info about this plant – it may be mislabelled. It is located close to the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Peppermint Twist'
(Unknown date) Hybridized by Thornton, this plant has pink flowers and is located in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is situated on the bank of the Short Branch, just west of R.’Scintillation’.
Rhododendron 'Paul Mauney' #1
(1996) This plant was hybridized by Angelini and has white flowers. It was raised and introduced by Don Kellam and donated from his collection. It is located on the trail, just north of R. ‘Cynthia’. It is in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Paul Bosley'
(2002) A Bosley hybrid with pink flowers. This plant is located off the trail, northeast of R. ‘Yelton Dec 69’, in the area just north of the Kellam Area.
Rhododendron 'P.J.M.' #2
(Unknown date) At the north end of the Kellam Trail, about midway between the Kellam and Rosebay trails. Just east of a white oak, and the twin plant of another PJM close to it.

Rhododendron 'Newburyport Beauty'
(1991) A Dexter hybrid in the Kellam Area from the Kellam Collection. It is located towards the middle of the Area, some distance off the Trail. It is due east of a group of Grierosplendour plants near the Kellam sign.
Rhododendron 'Nestucca'#2
(1996) This hybrid was raised and donated by Dr. Kellam. It is an outstanding rhodo with the species fortunei and yakushimanum as parents. It has white flowers in early spring and a compact habit, with glossy dark green leaves. Our plant is located on the trail, in the area containing the Hemlock grove. It is on the south side of R. adenopodum.

(2007) An open pollinated hybrid located near the center of the area just north of the Kellam Area. It is northeast of R. ‘Tod Morden’.
Rhododendron 'Mrs. W.R. Coe' x op #1
(2007) An open pollinated hybrid of Mrs. W. R. Coe, this plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is on the bank of the Short Branch, just west of R. ‘Peppermint Twist’.
Rhododendron 'Mrs. W.R. Coe' #6
(Unknown date) A Dexter hybrid with the fortunei species as a parent. It has deep pink flowers with a crimson throat and large deep green leaves. It is located in the Kellam Area, off the trail, just north of R. ‘C.O.D.’ and close to a large R. minus plant below the Kellam sign.
Rhododendron 'Mrs. W.R. Coe' #5
(Unknown date) Tall, old plant on the trail (north end of Kellam Trail). A Dexter hybrid, very strong grower – just south of a group of three R. minus plants.
Rhododendron 'Maxecat' #3
(Unknown date) An older clump, cut back from tall Maxecat plants, located on the trail near the Beech tree at the intersection of the Bog Trail.
Rhododendron 'Maud Corning'
(1993) A Dexter hybrid with R. fortunei as a parent, from the Kellam collection. The original unnamed plant came to the Holden Arboretum in Ohio and was named in honor of Mrs. Corning, the wife of the arboretum’s director. The flowers are pink and fragrant. The plant is on the trail, just south of R. prunifolium, in the area south of the old Glen entrance.
Rhododendron 'Madame Masson' #1
(Before 1980) Hybridized in 1949 in France, this plant is compact and spreading with flowers that are easily recognized by their white color with a prominent yellow blotch. It is located on the trail near the Hemlock grove, opposite the intersection with the Rosebay Trail.
Rhododendron 'Lovell Loomis' #2
(2012) I have no information about this hybrid. It is located in the area just south of the Kellam Area, off the trail just behind the bed containing the two vaseyi azaleas and R. hyperythrum.
Rhododendron 'Judy Spillane' #2
(Before 1980) A hybrid by Wister with flowers that open a soft pink and soon change to white. This plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is close to the Short Branch, and one of the few surviving plants in the back of this area.
Rhododendron 'Judy Spillane' #1
(2010) Off north end of Kellam Trail, about ten feet east of Cornus alternifolia, and six feet north of ‘Cadis’ rhodo. (Raised by Danny Little. It is creamy white, late blooming. (maximum X ‘Janet Blair’)
Rhododendron 'Jonathan Shaw'
(1996) A Leonard hybrid with flowers of vivid purple shading to a dark reddish-purple throat. This plant is located on the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is close to the large R. ‘Cadis x Wheatley’.
Rhododendron 'Jean Marie de Montague'
(2012) An older hybrid from Van Nes & sons with strong red flowers. This plant is located in the area just south of the Kellam Area; off the trail not far from the Bog Trail, near R. ‘Maxecat’.
Rhododendron 'Janet Blair' #1
(2010) A Dexter hybrid with a dense, well-branched growth habit. Flowers are fragrant and frilly, light pink with a yellow blotch. This plant was raised by Dan Little, and is considered one of the best by the ARS. It is located just off the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Jonathan Shaw’.

(1993) A hybrid from the Heritage Plantation (HP) in Massachusetts. It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.

(1992) A Heritage Plantation (HP) hybrid from the Kellam collection. It is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is a layered plant, southwest of R. ‘Consolini P-75’.

(1992) A Heritage Plantation (HP) hybrid from the Kellam collection. This plant is located on the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is just north of R. ‘Towe 2’.
Rhododendron 'HP 136-78'
(1991) A Cowles hybrid from Heritage Plantation (HP). It is located on the trail, just south of the Kellam Spur Trail intersection in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Herbie' #1
(2012) A peachy, yellowish flowered hybrid named for Dr. Herbert Hechenbleikner, the founder of the UNCC gardens. It is located on the trail, just north of ‘Tom Everett’, near the intersection with the Kellam Connecting Trail.
Rhododendron 'Hallelujah'
(1992) A Greer hybrid from the Kellam collection with purplish-red flowers and unusual foliage, with leaves curving downward, rounded at the base. This plant is located just off the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Wyanokie’.

(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with red flowers. This plant is located in the center of the Kellam Area, northeast of the large Barnstable rhodo.

(Before 1980) A hybrid that is common in the Glen; recognized by its unusual flower buds. It is located off the trail, in the closest area to the Main Entrance on the west side of the Kellam Trail.

(1997) A hybrid with one parent being ‘Purple Splendour’, giving the flowers a purplish-red color. The plant is quite common in the Glen and distinguished by the unusual shape of the flower buds. It is located in the area just north of the Kellam Area; off the trail not far from the Kellam Spur Trail.
Rhododendron 'Grierosplendour' #5
(Before 1980) We have quite a few of these hybrids in the Glen. The flowers are purplish-red and flower buds have a distinct shape that identifies the plant. It is a spreading plant, located in the area at the north end of the Kellam Trail, in a section (now obscured) that was rock-lined to enclose a planting of azaleas. It is on the west edge of a spreading Leucothoe plant.
