(Before 1980) One of a group of four plants, probably layered from one plant. A hybrid with one parent being ‘Purple Splendour’, giving the flowers a purplish-red color. The plant is quite common in the Glen and distinguished by the unusual shape of the flower buds. It is located just off the trail in the Kellam Area, near the Kellam sign. The plant is adjacent to R. ‘Brown Eyes’, just east of R. ‘Maxecat.

(2001) An azalea from the Gregory Bald area on the North Carolina/Tennessee border, where the plants are known to freely hybridize and may have flowers of various shades of red, orange and yellow. This plant is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area, near the Kellam sign.
Rhododendron 'Great Smoky' #1
(1993) Hybridized by Hagg in the Great Smoky Mts., this plant is from the Kellam collection. It has soft pink flowers and a bright reddish-purple blotch in the throat.This plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is not far from the Short Branch, about midway between the Kellam Trail and the fence.
Rhododendron 'Graf Zeppelin'
(1998) A hybrid by C.B. van Nes in 1934. It is located in the area containing the Hemlock grove, and this plant is just on the north side of the grove, close to a large white oak tree.
Rhododendron 'Gomer Waterer' #1
(Before 1980) A large, spreading plant with white flowers that are mauve-pink at the edges. This plant is off the trail, west of a large white oak, near the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Fragrant Yelton' #2
(2003) This hybrid was propagated from one of our older rhodos in the Glen, originally donated by Dr. Ernest Yelton. It is located just off the trail, on the west side of R. ‘Nestucca’, in the area containing the Hemlock grove.

(2010) This hybrid was raised by Dan LIttle. This plant is located close to the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is just south of a large R. ‘Yelton’.

(2013) A Dexter hybrid with an upright and dense habit; flowers open pink, fading to almost white. This plant is located off the trail, near the Hemlock grove and just west of the tall R. ‘David Gable’.

(Before 1980) An older plant located in the Kellam Area, off the trail a short distance northeast of R. ‘Dexter’s Purple’.
Rhododendron 'English Roseum' #1
(1980) This is an old hybrid, a spreading plant located in the area at the north end of the Kellam Trail, in a section (now obscured) that was rock-lined to enclose a planting of azaleas. It is one of the few plants in this section that is not an azalea.
Rhododendron 'Don Kellam' #1
(1992) A hybrid by Cowles (2nd generation Dexter hybrid), with orange flowers. It is named in honor of Dr. Donald S. Kellam, the donor of our prized collection of Dexter rhododendrons. It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Don Kellam x Red Beach'
(1999) This hybrid with ‘Don Kellam’ as one parent seems to be mislabelled – research is unable to find information about it. It is located in the area just north of the Kellam Area, near the irrigation pipe and a spreading R. minus. It is growing laterally, close to the ground (2017).
Rhododendron 'Dexter's Tan'
(1992) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with soft yellowish-tan and cream flowers. This plant is located on the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is just north of a large R. ‘Cadis x Wheatley’ plant.
Rhododendron 'Dexter's Springtime'
(1996) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection. The growth habit is rather low and broad. It has fragrant, yellowish-white flowers with pink edges and brown spotting in the throat. It is located in the Kellam Area, near the center and south of R. ‘Halesite Maiden’.
Rhododendron 'Dexter's Peppermint x op' #3
(2007) An open pollinated hybrid located in the area containing the Hemlock grove. It is just east of a tall R. ‘maximum’ and the (obscured) rock-lined path.

(2010) A hybrid produced by open pollination of Dexter’s Peppermint. It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Dexter's Peppermint x op' #1
(2007) A special hybrid where one parent is the Dexter hybrid ‘Peppermint’ – used to hybridize a new plant where the seed was produced from pollination in the open. This plant is located in the Kellam Area, on the Trail near its intersection with the Kellam Connecting Trail (beside R. ‘Trude Webster’).

(2010) A Dexter hybrid raised by Dan Little. This plant is located in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is not far from the Short Branch and R. ‘Scintillation’.
Rhododendron 'Dexter's Apple Blossom'
(2010) A Dexter hybrid raised by D. Little. It is located in the Kellam Area, on the trail, just west of R. ‘Calsap’.
Rhododendron 'Dexter Moseley 53-14'
(1993) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection. It is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is just west of R. ‘Flaming Snow’.
Rhododendron 'David Gable' #1
(Before 1980) A Gable hybrid that is old and tall. It is located just off the trail, behind the bench near the Hemlock grove. This is close to the intersection with the Rosebay Trail.
Rhododendron 'Daphnoides'
(Before 1980) This hybrid has unusual foliage, with leaves that are dark green and glossy and curved under. Flowers are a light purple color. It is located on the trail in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail; in fact, it is the first plant on the trail where it bends to the south.
Rhododendron 'Cynthia' #2
(Before 1980) This large, spreading plant is widely planted in the Glen and is a true “iron-clad”, virtually indestructible. It is located on the trail, just south of R. ‘Paul Mauney’, at the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Consolini P-75'
(1992) A hybrid by Consolini (one of Dexter’s gardeners), donated by Marshall Stilwell. It is located off the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is due west of R. ‘Towe 2’.
Rhododendron 'Conewago Improved'
(Unknown date) On the north end of the Kellam Trail, just north of a prunifolium azalea. May bloom in the fall, in bloom 10-17-16. A large old plant – Gable hybrid (R. carolinianum X R.macronulatum).
Rhododendron 'Conant's Pink' #1
(2010) This hybrid was raised by Dan Little and is located on the trail, just east of a large white oak. It is in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Choptank Yellow' #2
(Before 1980) A spreading azalea (one or more plants) that is low and not thriving. It is at the edge of a spreading Leucothoe patch, in an area at the north end of the Kellam Trail.
Rhododendron 'Choptank Yellow' #1
(Before 1980) This plant is a yellow-flowered selection from a swarm of natural hybrids on the Choptank River located on the Maryland/Delaware River. The two species that have hybridized are periclymenoides and atlanticum. Our plant is located just north of R. calendulaceum, in the area containing the Hemlock grove, in a section (now obscured) that was rock-lined to enclose a planting of azaleas.
Rhododendron 'Charlene'
(1992) This hybrid came from the Kellam collection and may be mislabelled. Research is unable to find any information about ‘Charlene’. It is located on the trail, near the Hemlock grove, and just north of R. ‘Madame Masson’.
Rhododendron 'Blue Ensign'
(Before 1980) This hybrid has purple flowers with a white throat and prominent dark purple blotch. It is located on the trail, just north of the Hemlock grove and a bench.
Rhododendron 'Bellringer'
(1991) A Consolini hybrid from the Kellam collection with light greenish-yellow flowers that are fragrant. It is a little “shy to bloom”. Located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
Rhododendron 'Barnstable'
(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection with pale pink flowers and a rounded growth habit. It is a very large plant located in the Kellam Area, in the general area of the Kellam sign, directly east of R.’Tom Everett’.
Rhododendron 'Acclaim' #1
(2010) A Dexter hybrid with red flowers. It is off the trail, located in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail. It is southeast of R. calendulaceum.
Rhododehdron 'Ginny Beale'
(1992) A Gable hybrid (metternichii x adenopodum) from the Kellam collection. It has rose colored flowers and is located on the trail, in the area just south of the Short Branch and west of the Kellam Trail.
Rhodo. 'Shaker Sunrise' x 'Mary Belle'
(1999) This hybrid is located in the area containing the Hemlock grove. It is off the trail, just south of a large white oak and close to the rock-lined path (now obscured).
Rhodendron colemanii
(2012) A new species of azalea, first described in 2008 as a split of the alabamense species. (It originally was thought to be a natural hybrid of alabamense). Flowers can by white, pink, or yellow and it blooms a month later than albamense. This plant is located off the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is west of R. ‘Wyanokie’.
Rhodendron 'Yelton Dec - 69'
(1969) A very old, unnamed Yelton hybrid planted in December 1969, just three years after the first plantings in the Glen. It is located on the trail, in the area adjoining (north) of the Kellam area.
R. 'Maxecat'
(Before 1980) An older, cut back plant located on the trail just north of the Kellam sign, in front of R. ‘Brown Eyes’.
Rhododendron 'Calsap'
(2003) A hybrid by Michener, crossing ‘Catalgla’ with ‘Sappho’. The flower is white with a bold purple blotch. It is located in the Kellam Area, off the trail, due east of the azalea ‘Gregory Bald hybrid’.
Rhododendron 'Cadis' #1
(Unknown date) On the north end of the Kellam Trail, some 30 feet off the trail, just east of R. ‘Dexter’s Glow’. A very old, tall plant with no lower limbs. A Gable hybrid (Caroline X fortunei).

(1992) A large hybrid from the Kellam collection. This plant is located on the trail, in the area just south of the old entrance to the Glen and west of the Kellam Trail. It is just south of R. ‘Dexter’s Tan’.
Rhododendron 'C.O.D.'
(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection, C.O.D. standing for Charles Owen Dexter. Flowers are pale yellow to white blushed with pink, deeper yellow in throat, blotch deeper yellow. A large old plant located in the Kellam Area off the trail, just west of R. ‘Newburyport Beauty’, and due east of the Kellam sign.
Rhododendron 'Brown Eyes' #1
(1991) A Dexter hybrid from the Kellam collection in the Kellam Area. It has large pink trusses with a bronze flare, unmistakable. It is located close to the trail, just north of the Kellam sign and in the middle of a group of R. ‘Grierosplendour plants.
