Rhododendron (Cowles selection?)
(1992) This plant is likely mislabelled, from the Kellam collection. (1992) From the planting in 1992, it grew tall and small-leaved (like an lepidote rhodo). The label said it was a dwarf white Cowles selection. It was cutback in 2016, and is located beside the trail, near the intersection with the Kellam Spur Trail.

(Before 1980) One of a group of three plants, probably layered from one plant. A hybrid with one parent being ‘Purple Splendour’, giving the flowers a purplish-red color. The plant is quite common in the Glen and distinguished by the unusual shape of the flower buds. It is located on the trail at the intersection of the Kellam Spur Trail.

(Unknown date) An older, spreading plant located west of the large colonizing ‘Cynthia’ rhodo on the Short Branch Spur Trail. Hybridized using R.catawbiense by Waterer before 1900. Has lilac-pink flowers.

(Before 1980) A very old, tall plant, near the center of the area bounded by the Long Branch West Trail and the Short Branch Spur Trail, north of a group of ‘Maxecat’ plants and not far from a rock outcropping.

(Unknown date) A very large, spreading plant located near the intersection of the Short Branch Trail and the Short Branch Spur Trail. The Cynthia hybrid is probably the most vigorous rhodo growing in the Glen.

(Unknown date) About 10 feet off trail, old, sprawling plant with white flowers. Large leaves and very “leggy”.
Rhododendron 'Anna Rose Whitney' #6
(Unknown date) Located just off the trail, just north of the large ‘Barnstable’ rhodo. A vigorous, fast grower, broad spreading, one of the favorites of the Garden’s founder, Dr. Hech.
Rhododendron 'Acclaim' #3
(Unknown date) A Dexter hybrid located at the intersection of the Short Branch Spur and Kellam Spur trails. (1993) It was not thriving in 2016, probably due to encroachment from another rhodo.
